The city of Sagamu on Saturday witnessed an outpouring of tributes as the remains of Alhaji Adekunle Sikirullahi Adegbite, a respected retired Chief Technical Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Lagos, and former Supervisor for Finance, Sagamu Local Government Council, were laid to rest. He was 90.


Alhaji Adegbite breathed his last on Friday at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, where he was receiving medical care. His burial took place the following day at exactly 4:00 p.m. within his Sagamu residence, in accordance with Islamic rites and in fulfilment of his long-expressed wishes.

The solemn ceremony was conducted by Islamic scholars from Remo, Ogun State and Festac Town, Lagos. It drew an impressive gathering of political leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures, senior public servants, and members of the community who came to honour a man widely regarded as principled, diligent, and committed to public service.

Among the dignitaries present were veteran chartered accountant, Alhaji Ganiyu Kasal Oladipo (FCA); former Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Engr. Oyewole; pioneer Commander of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Major Dapo Sunmola (Rtd.); the Onijagba of Ijagba Sagamu; the Oba of Ogudu; and the Olu of Oke Ariko Community, Sagamu, among several others.


Born on Wednesday, February 20, 1935, into the Adegbite Royal Family of the Owarodo and Koyelu Ruling Houses of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Alhaji Adegbite lived a life marked by honour, public service, and strong communal values.

His 90th birthday, celebrated earlier this year, became a major gathering of notable personalities—including Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, Wife of the Governor of Ogun State; the Wife of the former Osun State Governor, Mrs. Oyetola; and Senator Kola Bajomo—who came to recognize his enduring influence and inspiring journey.


Saturday’s burial rites, which concluded at about 5:30 p.m., provided a fitting farewell to a man many described as a pillar of sagacity, humility, and integrity.

Alhaji Adegbite is survived by successful children, grandchildren, brother and other family members and a grateful community that will long remember his contributions.

According to the family source, the final funeral ceremony is scheduled for next Saturday, November 29.
