The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), a political support group in Ogun State, has intensified its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of its students’ wing and the admission of the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum into the movement.

The development took place in Abeokuta during a joint gathering of the newly admitted groups and members of the movement.

Speaking at the event, the Convener of YPM, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, said the movement was deliberately expanding its engagement with young people, particularly students who are eligible to vote, as part of its strategy to strengthen its grassroots structure across Ogun State.

Akintunde described students as an important component of society and a critical part of the country’s future, stressing that their participation in political activities would help deepen grassroots engagement.

He said YPM would continue to create opportunities for students to participate actively in the movement and contribute to its mobilisation efforts.

The convener also formally welcomed the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum into YPM, describing the reported membership of about 4,000 women as another indication of the movement’s growing grassroots presence.

According to him, the latest development had further strengthened the movement’s membership base, which he put at 55,000 across the state.

“This is another testament to our mobilisation efforts in the Yayi Progressives Movement. I can confidently declare that the movement can now boast of 55,000 members across the state.”

Akintunde commended the movement’s apex leaders, State Executive Committee, local government coordinators and ward coordinators for their contributions to the expansion of YPM.

He urged the newly admitted groups, particularly the students and members of the women’s forum, to intensify their mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the movement’s objective was to secure broad support for its principal, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as well as other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from the presidential level to the state House of Assembly.

Students Target 5,000 Members

Speaking on behalf of the apex body of YPM, the Co-Convener and an apex member, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, commended the students and members of the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum for joining the movement.

Odeneye said their admission was evidence that the movement’s grassroots engagement was producing results across the state.

“This is what we stand for in the Yayi Progressives Movement. Our grassroots mobilisation and engagement are yielding results and improving daily.”

He also commended Akintunde for his commitment to strengthening the movement and advancing its agenda alongside other leaders.

The newly inaugurated students’ wing is led by Comrade Dotun Opaleye, who expressed appreciation to the YPM leadership for providing students with a platform to participate in the political movement.

Opaleye said the students’ wing had commenced mobilisation across tertiary institutions in Ogun State, with a target of enrolling 5,000 students into YPM.

“It is my joy that we have a slot in this large political support group, the Yayi Progressives Movement. With my position within the students’ circle in Ogun State, myself and our team are mobilising 5,000 students across the state who are ready to support and key into the agenda of the Yayi Progressives Movement.”

He explained that the mobilisation was being carried out across tertiary institutions in the state, particularly among students interested in participating in the activities of the APC.

According to him, the students’ wing had already made significant progress towards achieving its 5,000-member target.

Opaleye also praised the YPM leadership for supporting the recently concluded voter registration exercise on campuses.

He said the initiative demonstrated the movement’s commitment to engaging students and encouraging their participation in the electoral process.

“I can't end this message without commending the Convener of this great movement for mobilising us for the just-concluded exercise on voter registration within our campuses. This gave us the assurance that the Yayi Progressives Movement is ready for the students and stands by its mission.”

Women’s Forum Joins YPM

Also speaking at the event, Mrs. Ogunsanya Olusola, a leader of the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum, commended Akintunde for his efforts towards strengthening the APC in Ogun State.

Olusola spoke during the appreciation and decoration of the YPM Convener as the forum’s new patron.

She expressed confidence in the leadership of the movement and its ability to provide a platform for broader political participation.

The Chairman of the YPM Board of Leaders, Chief Fajimi, also appreciated members and supporters of the movement for their contributions to its growth.

Fajimi particularly commended the YPM Convener for the recently concluded solidarity trek organised by the movement’s students’ and youth forums.

He described the exercise as unprecedented in the political history of Ogun State.
