Former Ogun East Senator, Lekan Mustapha, and the current Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ogun State Correspondents' Chapel, Comrade Kunle Olayeni, were notable among the dignitaries who attended the Golden Jubilee party of the publisher of Gateway Times and IjebuXtra, Baaroyin Dayo Rufai, as he turned 50 this Sunday, April 6, 2025.


The ceremony which was initially planned to be low-key, soon get filled with glamour and "Faaji Unlimited" as friends, family, and media colleagues gathered to honour the renowned Ogun State media guru and socialite.

Also in attendance were the former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ogun State Correspondents' Chapel, Comrade Kunle Olayeni, other media colleagues, family members, friends and other well-wishers from different walks of life.


The 50th birthday ceremony was said to have started at Equity Resorts and Suites, before the celebrant and his guests proceeded to the lively Ule Faaji Club in Igbeba, Ijebu Ode, on Sunday.


Although it was planned to be low-key event, the arrival of distinguished guests like Senator Olalekan Mustapha, and a principal officer of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, led to instant change of the socio-atmospheric condition of the party and the venue.



Encomiums were showered on him by the special guests, starting with Senator Mustapha, Hon. Adeleye, and Comrade Kunle Olayeni, who described "Rufai as a principled, passionate, and unflinchingly honest media professional, known for his unwavering support of those around him, regardless of their background".


Born on April 6, 1975, Chief Rufai who hails from Ijebu Waterside Area of Ogun State, is an alumnus of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, who has been in the journalism profession for over two decades. He was the State Correspondent of the Encomium Magazines for many years in Ogun State, where he caught his teeth in Social Journalism and became famous as a society journalist.


After building good reputation for himself in that branch of journalism and became well known among politicians, top socialites, society ladies in Ogun State, and more entrenched in Ijebuland, he then went ahead to start publishing Gateway Times and Ijebu NewsExtra.


In recognition of his contributions to the development of Journalism in Ijebuland, Rufai was honoured with the Chieftaincy title of Baaroyin, which literally means "King of News" by an Ijebu Waterside monarch, because he is seen as an authority in news business in that part of the world.


He also displayed his entrepreneurial spirit by establishing Ule Faaji Center for socialites in the community to socialize and for the workaholics to unwind after their daily tedious work.


As Rufai joined the club of quinquagenarians Successful People Media , publishers of Successful People Magazine wish this rugged and productive journalist more fruitful years and greater contributions to the media industry.
