Following the declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, with the suspension of Governor Similanaya Fubara with his Executive Council members and all the elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months l; and appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Retd.) as the Sole Administrator of the State, a new administration is now in charge of the State that has the largest deposit of Nigeria's crude oil.
Below are the key facts you need to know about the new military leader of the oil rich State.
1. Birth Date and Place:
Ibas was born on 27 September 1960 in Nko, Cross River State, South South Nigeria.
2. Early Education:
He began his primary education at Nko Primary School, Nko, in 1966 and completed at Big Qua Primary School, Calabar in 1971.
3. Secondary Education:
Ibas attended the prestigious Hope Waddell Training Institute Calabar from 1972 to 1976.
4. Pre-University Education:
Between 1977 and 1979, he attended the School of Basic Studies Ogoja.
5. Nigerian Defence Academy:
Ibas enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of 26 Regular Course on 20 June 1979.
6. Commission:
He was commissioned sub-lieutenant on 1 January 1983.
7. Military Courses:
Ibas attended several military courses, including the Sub-Lieutenant Technical Course at INS Venduruthy in India and Primary Pilot Training at the 301 Primary Flying Training School.
8. Armed Forces Command and Staff College:
He completed the Junior Staff Course in June 1990 and later completed the Senior Staff Course with excellent grades.
9. Amphibious Warfare School:
Ibas graduated with a diploma in amphibious warfare from the United States Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia.

He completed the Officers' Long Course specializing in underwater warfare at the Underwater Warfare School, NNS Quorra.
11. National Defence College:
Ibas attended the National Defence Course from August 2005 to June 2006 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

He holds a master's degree in defence and strategic studies from Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan.
13. Nigerian Navy Appointments:
Ibas held several appointments, including executive officer of NNS Siri, NNS Ekun, and NNS Ambe.
14. Commanding Officer:
He was the commanding officer of the Nigerian Navy Underwater Warfare School and the Forward Operating Base Ibaka.
15. Directing Staff:
Ibas served as a directing staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
16. Naval Provost Marshal:
He was the naval provost marshal from April 2003 to June 2004.
17. Chief of Naval Staff:
Ibas served as the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021.
