The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State, after his exit from the party.

In a statement, "APC TO MALLAM NASIR EL-RUFAI: QUIT SULKING, GET A GRIP, SALVAGE SOME RESPECTABILITY" tweeted on the X handle of Mr Bayo Onanuga, President  Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, @aonanuga1956 , the APC's National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, accused El-Rufai of being driven by raw self-interest rather than a genuine concern for the country.

El-Rufai had claimed that the APC had deviated from its founding values and turned into a party where "everyone is now pursuing personal interests." However, Morka countered that El-Rufai's real reason for leaving the party was his disappointment at being snubbed for a ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu.

The APC statement also highlighted the party's commitment to its founding values and ideals, citing the progress made under President Tinubu's administration. According to Morka, Nigerians are witnessing tangible progress in the delivery of the President's campaign promises, including the removal of fuel subsidy, unification of exchange rates, and reforms in customs and taxation.

The statement concluded by advising El-Rufai to stop sulking, get a grip, and salvage some respectability. El-Rufai had recently joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), which Morka described as an invitation to drink from a chalice poisoned by selfishness, vengefulness, and delusion of grandeur.
