By Our Reporter,

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, gubernatorial candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) have applauded the Convener of the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), Hon. Armstrong Akintunde, for his consistency, commitment and sustained grassroots political mobilisation.

The commendations came during the YPM Ogun East Mega Rally and inauguration of its artisans' wing, held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, where thousands of supporters and members of various community groups converged ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Abiodun particularly recognised Akintunde as the driving force behind the massive gathering, describing him as a consistent, dependable and committed party member.

The governor disclosed that he had anticipated a relatively small gathering when he received the invitation to the event but was pleasantly surprised by the large crowd that welcomed him on arrival at the stadium.

Estimating the attendance at more than 30,000, Abiodun commended the organisers for introducing an individual accreditation process for participants, noting that the movement had grown organically since 2019.

He urged Akintunde and other YPM members to sustain the mobilisation momentum, challenging each participant to bring at least three additional supporters into the movement.

According to the governor, if the estimated 30,000 participants could each mobilise three more people, the movement would be able to generate an additional 90,000 votes in the area.

Abiodun also expressed appreciation to participants who travelled from different locations to attend the rally, describing their presence as a demonstration of loyalty and commitment to the party.

Similarly, Senator Adeola acknowledged Akintunde's longstanding contributions to the political movement, disclosing that he had known the YPM convener for more than 20 years.

The senator identified the Ake rally, the 10,000 Youth Movement and the inauguration of the Ogun East artisans' structure as significant milestones in Akintunde's political mobilisation efforts, commending his consistency in building and strengthening YPM's grassroots presence.

The governorship candidate urged supporters to translate the impressive turnout at the rally into votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second-term ambition and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

He also assured Governor Abiodun that the achievements recorded under his administration would be sustained, while ongoing developmental projects and initiatives would be consolidated and taken to greater heights.

"We cannot afford to compromise the future of this state. We are on the right track; we are going higher and higher," Adeola declared.

He further attributed prevailing political developments in the opposition camp to divine intervention, stating, "We are not taking credit for it; it is simply God's hand."

Earlier, Akintunde expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun, the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and other party leaders for their support and participation.

He outlined YPM's mobilisation objectives and plans to expand its grassroots structures across the state, identifying the political aspirations of President Tinubu, Senator Adeola, Governor Abiodun and other APC candidates as key priorities of the movement.

Akintunde explained that the Ijebu-Ode rally was part of a broader mobilisation programme that would extend to Ogun Central and Ogun West Senatorial Districts.

He consequently urged members and supporters to intensify their grassroots activities, reaching every nook and cranny of the state to canvass support for APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

A major highlight of the gathering was the inauguration of YPM's artisans' wing, an initiative designed to bring organised professional groups into the movement's grassroots political network.

The new structure is expected to be replicated across the other two senatorial districts as YPM intensifies efforts to expand its statewide reach and participation.

Other speakers at the rally included Hon. Segun Kaka, Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and Otunba Adeleke Adedoyin (Asoludero), who encouraged participants to support Governor Abiodun's senatorial ambition.

The event attracted several political leaders and stakeholders, including Senator Lekan Mustapha, Director-General of the APC Campaign in Ogun State; Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa Balogun; the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Dapo Okubadejo; Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi; members of the state executive; Mrs Temitope Adeola, wife of Senator Adeola; and Chief Mrs Ronke, popularly known as Rontex.

Also in attendance were Aare Tunde Adesanya, Dr Kehinde Bello, Prince Farouk Adenuga, Prince Akeem Awolesi, Hon. Seye Adeniyi and Aremo Tunde Akinsanya, among other political leaders and stakeholders.

The rally featured entertaining musical performances by Fuji music stars King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, adding colour and excitement to the gathering.

Traditionalists, religious clerics and their followers, market women, students, traditional security groups and representatives of various associations also participated in the event, reflecting the broad range of community groups represented at the rally.

The massive turnout, coupled with the public recognition of Akintunde's contributions by Governor Abiodun and Senator Adeola, marked a significant moment for the YPM convener and the movement's leadership.

As the movement prepares to extend its mobilisation activities to Ogun Central and Ogun West, the Ijebu-Ode gathering represents another phase in its efforts to consolidate its grassroots structures and broaden its political network across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
