ABEOKUTA — Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo, has thrown his weight behind the consensus arrangement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, pledging support for the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, ahead of the 2027 election.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Lemo disclosed that his decision to align with the party’s consensus position followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and leaders within the APC. He described the move as a necessary step to strengthen unity and reposition the party for electoral success.
According to him, his action should not be misconstrued as a withdrawal from active political engagement, but rather a strategic decision aimed at advancing the collective interest of the party and the state.
“This is not a retreat from service. It is a deliberate, strategic alignment for the greater good,” Lemo stated.
He expressed confidence in Adeola’s ability to build on the achievements of the current administration and drive Ogun State’s growth as a leading industrial and innovation hub in Nigeria.
Lemo noted that the consensus candidacy would also enhance cohesion across the three senatorial zones, thereby boosting the APC’s chances in the forthcoming election.
Lamenting the impact of past internal divisions within the party, Lemo stressed the importance of unity, urging party members to put aside personal ambitions for the overall progress of the APC.
“For too long, fragmentation has cost progressives momentum. We must close ranks. Leaders must lead by example, not by insisting on self, but by enabling strength,” he said.
He further called on his supporters and political associates across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State to rally behind Adeola’s candidacy, emphasizing the need for collective commitment to secure victory at the polls.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and his dedication to the development of Ogun State, Lemo pledged to contribute his expertise in finance, enterprise, and public policy toward ensuring effective governance and electoral success for the party.
He also appreciated the leadership of the APC at both national and state levels, as well as traditional rulers and residents of Ogun State, for their continued support and confidence.
“The contest ahead is not about individuals. It is about Ogun’s future. Let us be on the right side of history—united, focused, and victorious,” he added.
