As political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to crystallize, fresh insights have emerged on the high-level alignments that led to the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State.

A prominent political group, the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), has shed light on the behind-the-scenes consensus-building process, while openly commending Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dapo Abiodun for what it described as “strategic and fatherly leadership” in ensuring a smooth emergence for the lawmaker.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the Convener of the group, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, described Adeola’s emergence as both “well-deserved and long-anticipated,” citing his political pedigree, grassroots appeal, and track record of service, particularly in Ogun West Senatorial District.

According to Akintunde, the consensus decision was not coercion  but the product of deliberate consultations among party stakeholders, aimed at preserving unity within the APC while positioning the party strongly for victory in 2027.

“This was not just about politics; it was about fairness, inclusiveness, and strategic foresight,” he noted. “For decades, Ogun West has not produced a governor. Supporting Senator Adeola reflects a bold step toward balancing the political equation in the state.”

The group particularly praised President Tinubu for playing what it called a stabilizing and guiding role in the process, ensuring that internal interests were harmonized without fracturing party cohesion. Governor Abiodun was equally commended for aligning with the broader vision and supporting a successor that reflects continuity in governance..

Akintunde further linked the development to what he termed the “Lagos model” — a governance philosophy associated with sustained development, continuity, and strategic succession planning — expressing optimism that Ogun State stands to benefit from a similar trajectory under Adeola’s leadership.

With the consensus candidacy now settled, the Yayi Progressives Movement has shifted focus to mobilization, calling on residents across the state to rally behind Adeola’s governorship bid.

“The journey to a greater Ogun has begun. While past administrations have laid commendable foundations, the next phase of transformation requires tested leadership. Senator Adeola represents that bridge to the future.”Akintunde declared.

The group also extended appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters within and beyond Ogun State, noting that their collective efforts have strengthened the APC’s internal unity ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested election.

As the political atmosphere gradually intensifies, Adeola’s emergence—anchored on consensus rather than confrontation—may prove to be a defining moment in Ogun State’s march toward 2027.
