The political atmosphere in Ogun State witnessed a significant boost over the weekend as the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) recorded a major expansion in its membership base, welcoming new groups and stakeholders into its fast-growing structure.

At a well-attended gathering held on Saturday, the movement formally absorbed the leadership of the Ogun State Artisans Association of Nigeria alongside other political groups, marking another milestone in its steady rise as a formidable political force in the state.

With an existing membership strength of over 30,000, the latest development further cements YPM’s position as an emerging platform for inclusive political participation, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds—youths, professionals, artisans, and community leaders—under a shared vision of progress and development.

Speaking at the event, the Convener of the movement, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, described the expansion as a clear reflection of the growing confidence reposed in the movement by the people of Ogun State.

According to him, YPM remains an open and accommodating platform for all party faithful and stakeholders who are committed to the collective advancement of the state.

“As the movement continues to grow, it provides a unique avenue for meaningful engagement, leadership development, and collective action toward sustainable progress,” Akintunde stated.

“This is a moving train, and we encourage more residents of Ogun State to come on board.” He added.

He commended the leadership and coordinators of the movement for their unwavering dedication, noting that the increasing influx of new members is a testament to their grassroots mobilization efforts.

Describing the occasion as a unifying moment, Akintunde added, “What we are witnessing today is another milestone—bringing together our brothers and sisters from different political platforms into one united front. From a base of about 30,000 members, this expansion speaks volumes about our steady progress.”

As part of efforts to strengthen internal communication and public engagement, the convener announced the appointment of Comrade Akeem Akilo as the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the movement, applauding his role in fostering unity within the group.

In his remarks, Hon. Kehinde Odeneye, a former member of the House of Representatives representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency and Board Chairman of the Ogun State Artisans Association, lauded the leadership of the movement for building a strong and inclusive political structure.

He noted that the Yayi Progressives Movement continues to attract a wide spectrum of supporters, including youths, students, and artisans, all aligning toward a common political objective.

“This movement is built on purpose and direction. It is fast becoming one of the strongest political forces in Ogun State today,” Odeneye said, while reaffirming the readiness of artisans across the state to actively support and mobilize for the movement.

Also speaking, the State Coordinator of YPM, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, described the convergence as a strategic alignment of like-minded individuals and groups committed to a shared vision for the state. He emphasized that the movement offers significant political value and opportunity for constituents at all levels.

Similarly, the State Coordinator for Artisans, Comrade Anthony Ayodele, highlighted the inclusive nature of YPM, stressing that its strength lies in unity, openness, and a collective commitment to progress.

The event drew the presence of top leaders of the movement, state executives, local government and ward coordinators, as well as representatives of the newly admitted groups—signaling a deepening grassroots structure ahead of the movement’s forthcoming official inauguration.

With its expanding membership and growing influence, the Yayi Progressives Movement appears poised to play a significant role in shaping the political dynamics of Ogun State in the months ahead.
