2027 Elections: 10 Reasons Ogun East APC Endorsed Abiodun for Senate

That the leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have spoken with one voice, rallying behind Governor Dapo Abiodun as their consensus candidate for the 2027 Senate race is no longer news.

However, the reasons for the endorsement are not well known to some people, especially the Governor's critics and those who are less informed about the ongoing political games in Ogun East Senatorial District of the Gateway State.

The historic decision was announced at a packed gathering at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode,  last week, where party heavyweights, grassroots mobilisers, and elected officials converged in what many described as a defining moment for the district’s political future.

From ward executives to members of the National Assembly, from youth leaders to elders of the party, the message was clear: Ogun East is united in its choice.

So, what informed this rare unanimity? Here are the 10 key reasons behind the endorsement:

1. Proven Capacity to Deliver

Stakeholders, led by former senator Lekan Mustapha, expressed strong confidence in Abiodun’s ability to represent Ogun East effectively at the national level.

2. Leadership Defined by Character and Intellect

Described as a man of “strong character and sound intellect,” Abiodun’s personal qualities were seen as critical assets for legislative responsibility.

3. Impressive Governance Track Record

According to the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, the governor’s record in office has earned him the credibility to take on a bigger national role.

4. Builder of Party Unity

His administration has fostered cohesion within the APC, reducing internal friction and strengthening the party’s structure across Ogun State.

5. Promoter of Peace and Development

For House of Representatives member Femi Ogunbanwo, Abiodun’s tenure has brought stability and visible development, setting a foundation for greater achievements.

6. Ability to Attract Federal Opportunities

Leaders believe his influence and experience will translate into increased federal presence and projects for Ogun East.

7. Massive Grassroots Backing

The endorsement was not symbolic—it was backed by all 103 councillors, ward leaders, local government executives, and party faithful across the nine LGAs.

8. Performance That Warrants Promotion

Local government chairman Afolabi Odulate noted that Abiodun’s performance as governor naturally positions him for elevation to the Senate.

9. Strategic Consensus for Electoral Strength

By adopting a consensus candidate early, the APC in Ogun East aims to avoid internal divisions and consolidate its chances ahead of 2027.

10. Collective Belief in the Right Choice

As Talabi put it, the endorsement reflects a deep, shared conviction that Abiodun is “the right person for the position.”

Beyond the speeches, the sheer scale of attendance underscored the weight of the decision. Present were members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, past and present lawmakers, party executives, and respected elders, alongside key political figures and mobilisers across the district.

The stakeholders also went a step further, pledging to formally communicate their decision to the governor and even purchase his nomination forms—an indication of both commitment and urgency.

As Ogun East looks toward 2027, the endorsement signals more than political support; it marks the emergence of a unified front, determined to project its voice and influence at the national stage through a candidate many believe is tested, trusted, and ready.
