The leader of the Centre for the Advocacy of Human Rights and Social Justice (CAHRSC), Olufemi Akindele, has strongly condemned what he described as a sustained smear campaign against Prince Dapo Abiodun, insisting that no amount of blackmail will derail the governor’s senatorial ambition.

In a statement issued on Monday in Abeokuta, Akindele accused a serving Ogun senator of orchestrating a deliberate campaign of misinformation, falsehoods, and character attacks aimed at discrediting the governor. He urged members of the public to disregard what he termed a “worn-out script of deceit.”

Central to his criticism was the circulation of a document titled “31 Questions for Governor Dapo Abiodun,” which he dismissed as a crude and libelous fabrication. According to him, the document was allegedly sponsored by the senator but presented under the guise of concerned youths from Ogun East.
Akindele described the move as part of a long-standing pattern.

“For seven years, this individual has polluted the public space with toxic falsehoods, hiding behind faceless propagandists and hired voices. The so-called ‘31 questions’ is merely another chapter in a long-running campaign of blackmail and desperation,” he said.

He further maintained that the allegations contained in the document lack credibility, noting that many of the claims had already been dismissed by competent courts, including the Supreme Court, while others were entirely fabricated.

“These claims are neither rooted in facts nor reality. They are the distorted inventions of a man whose political relevance is rapidly fading. In desperation, he is attempting to drag others down,” Akindele added.

The CAHRSC leader also accused the senator of betrayal, alleging that he had turned against the same political leadership that once supported his rise.

“It is well known that Governor Abiodun extended goodwill to him, helping to elevate his political career. Unfortunately, that gesture has been repaid with betrayal, including alleged collaboration with opposition elements to undermine the governor’s re-election,” he stated.

Akindele went further to accuse the lawmaker of playing a double game within the ruling party, claiming he had failed to fully integrate into party structures while maintaining ties with opposition forces.

“He cannot continue to benefit from the APC while fraternizing with the PDP behind the scenes. That contradiction is now catching up with him, and the signs of panic are clear,” he said.

Dismissing the senator’s chances of political survival, Akindele attributed the recent attacks to fear of an uncertain electoral future.

“With no realistic prospect of returning to the Senate, he has resorted to emotional manipulation and cheap populism, portraying himself as a victim. However, the people of Ogun East are discerning enough to see through these tactics,” he said.

He called on residents to ignore what he described as a flood of misinformation, emphasizing that the endorsement of Governor Abiodun by APC stakeholders reflects the collective will of the people.

“If there are genuine grievances, the appropriate path is through lawful and party channels, starting with addressing internal issues and seeking reconciliation. Resorting to mudslinging only exposes desperation,” he added.

According to him, “No amount of noise, blackmail, or propaganda will stop the inevitable. The train has already left the station—and it will not wait for political saboteurs.”

Akindele concluded with a firm warning, reiterating that the governor’s senatorial ambition remains on course.
