 APC Faithful, Market Women, Youths Rally Behind Ayoola-Elegbeji for 2027

Sagamu, the headquarters of Remo, Ogun State, witnessed a remarkable political gathering as a large crowd of APC faithful, market women, youths, artisans, community leaders, and supporters flooded Ward 15, Ibido, to declare their unwavering support for Hon. (Dr.) Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji as she officially announced her intention to seek re-election into the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

The event, which many described as one of the biggest political gatherings ever recorded in the area, transformed Ibido into a carnival ground as supporters from across Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North Federal Constituency turned out in large numbers to endorse the lawmaker and demand continuity in representation.

From the Ajaka Constituency Office take-off point to Ward 15, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, music, solidarity songs, and chants of support as residents openly declared that Hon. Ayoola-Elegbeji remains their preferred choice for the Green Chamber.

The crowd repeatedly chanted:

“Elegbeji is our choice! Continuity is what we want!”

while others sang in Yoruba:

“Adesola, ma ba se re lo. Elegbeji ma ba se re lo. Ise re n da wa l’ọrun. Honourable ma ba se re lo.”

meaning:

“Adesola, continue your good work. Elegbeji, continue your good work. Your work brings us joy and satisfaction. Honourable, continue your good work.”

The declaration was more than a political event—it was widely seen as a grassroots referendum on her performance since assuming office.

Princess Ayoola-Elegbeji emerged through the August 2025 bye-election following the death of the former federal lawmaker representing the constituency, Hon. Oriyomi Onanuga, popularly known as “Ijaya,” who had become one of the most loved lawmakers in Ogun State before her passing.

Following Ijaya’s death, expectations from the new lawmaker were understandably high. Many constituents expected Princess Ayoola-Elegbeji to immediately continue the same pace of constituency development, especially given the strong legacy left behind.

However, political analysts noted that many residents did not fully understand the structural realities of the National Assembly. Unlike her predecessor, who occupied a principal office in the House of Representatives and enjoyed the institutional advantages attached to it, Princess Ayoola-Elegbeji entered as a first-time legislator without such privileges.

Though she won the bye-election in August 2025, she was only sworn in by October, requiring time to settle into the complex legislative system of the Green Chamber.

Rather than rushing into populist politics, she focused on understanding the system, building strategic relationships, and positioning herself for effective representation.

Within a short period, she began sponsoring bills, initiating constituency interventions, and moving important motions for federal government intervention.

One of her major achievements was her motion calling for the construction of pedestrian bridges along the dangerous Sagamu–Ikenne axis of the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, an issue that had long worried residents due to repeated accidents and pedestrian deaths.

She also organized a major Stakeholders’ Meeting on January 10, 2026, at Nandas Hotel, Sagamu, where traditional rulers, opinion leaders, and stakeholders from across the constituency were briefed on her legislative efforts and development plans.

Supporters at the declaration pointed to several achievements they believe justify her return for a full four-year mandate. These include sponsored bills, major motions, food palliative distribution across Remo communities, agricultural empowerment programmes, Operation Light Up Ikenne, free WAEC tutorials for over 1,000 students, intervention on the Ewu-Oliwo Road, and the rehabilitation of the NSCDC Command Office in Remo North.

Many of them insisted that it would be unfair to judge her based only on a short inherited tenure, arguing that legislative work requires time, strategic alliances, and institutional support.

A market leader at the event said:

“We have seen her work. We have felt her impact. We do not want to start all over again. Elegbeji lekan si.”

A youth leader added:

“She is our voice in Abuja. She is intelligent, accessible, and committed. What she needs now is a full term to complete what she has started.”

Another major highlight of the event was the public appreciation extended to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for supporting female leadership and giving Remo a representative many now describe as a strong and effective voice in Abuja.

The crowd repeatedly praised the governor, saying:

“Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, thank you for giving us a woman to represent us. You can do it again, sir.”

From market women to artisans, from students to party elders, the message remained consistent—continuity is the priority.

Political observers believe the massive turnout at Ward 15 sends a strong signal ahead of the 2027 elections and positions Princess Ayoola-Elegbeji as one of the strongest contenders for the House of Representatives seat.

For many residents of Remo Federal Constituency, the verdict is already clear:

They do not want a fresh start. They want continuity.

And for them, that continuity is Hon. Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji.
