Rebranding for Power: Omoluabi Movement Emerges as Yayi Progressives Movement

In a strategic move ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Omoluabi Movement, a prominent political group in Ogun State, has officially rebranded as the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), signaling a new phase in its political journey and ambitions.

The announcement was made in a press statement signed by the Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta through the State Media Director, Oluseun Joshua.

According to the statement, the transformation reflects a natural progression in the movement’s political philosophy following the successful execution of its previous agenda.

Akintunde explained that the rebranding marks a transition into a broader and more dynamic political platform, designed to align with emerging realities as the 2027 elections draw closer.

He noted that the newly rebranded Yayi Progressives Movement is committed to mobilising widespread grassroots support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State—from the presidential contest to State House of Assembly elections—with a particular focus on backing the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

Describing the movement as a formidable grassroots coalition, the convener highlighted that YPM comprises artisans, professionals, youth groups, and politically conscious stakeholders, alongside 17 affiliated groups united by a shared vision for Ogun State’s continued development within the progressive fold.

With a membership strength exceeding 30,000 and growing, he said the movement is steadily consolidating its influence across the state.

He further explained that the transition also represents a shift from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA), under which the group operated prior to the 2023 general elections. At that time, the platform was instrumental in mobilising support for the re-election of Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, whose administration, the group noted, earned public approval for its performance and delivery on campaign promises.

According to Akintunde, the Yayi Progressives Movement is driven by a renewed vision to deepen grassroots participation and advance progressive ideals rooted in inclusivity, accountability, and civic responsibility.

He emphasized that the movement seeks to build an enduring political structure that empowers citizens, promotes integrity, and redefines leadership culture beyond electoral cycles.

He added that sustainable political development must be anchored on strong ideological conviction and reform-oriented leadership, with a focus on economic growth, industrial expansion, educational advancement, and enhanced civic engagement.

With this rebranding, the Yayi Progressives Movement is positioning itself as a major political force in Ogun State, setting the stage for a highly competitive and dynamic build-up to the 2027 elections.
