A historic chapter has been added to the cultural heritage of Remoland as Oba (Dr.) Oladunni Olayinka Ifagbemi was officially crowned the Oloke of Oke Ariko, a growing town in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The new monarch was crowned by the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, HRM Oba(Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, during a formal ceremony held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Akarigbo’s Palace.

The installation was witnessed by several traditional rulers in Sagamu, including the Elepe of Epe, Oba Adewale Osiberu.

The colourful event drew dignitaries, royal fathers, community leaders, and well-wishers from across Ogun State and beyond, reflecting the significance of the occasion within Remoland.

A Well-Deserved Honour

Speaking after the installation, the Akarigbo described the coronation as a well-deserved honour. He offered royal prayers and blessings for the new monarch, the people of Oke Ariko, and all attendees, emphasizing unity, continuity, and sustained progress across Remoland.

Massive Turnout as Oke Ariko Celebrates
Preparations for the coronation had spanned some years, attracting mixed reactions at different stages. However, many indigenes believed the elevation of Oke Ariko to a recognized kingdom would enhance its status and accelerate development in the growing community.

On the day of the coronation, Oke Ariko witnessed a massive influx of guests who gathered to celebrate the emergence of its first Oloke. The atmosphere was a rich blend of culture and festivity, with renowned fuji artiste Taye Currency thrilling guests and adding glamour to the historic event.

A Royal Journey Marked by Destiny
Born in Sagamu on February 10, 1968, Oba Ifagbemi’s journey within the traditional institution spans nearly two decades.
His ascent began on February 10, 2007, when he was installed as Baale of Oke Ariko by the late Oba Adeniyi Michael Sonariwo, then Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland.

Nine years later, on February 10, 2016, he was elevated to the status of Olu of Oke Ariko by the same monarch during the administration of former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Notably, some individuals who played instrumental roles in his earlier elevations—including the late Chief Abiodun Orukotan (rtd. Lt. Colonel) and the late Alhaji Sikirullahi Adekunle Adegbite, did not live to witness his coronation as Oloke. However, others who supported his journey are still alive to see the fulfillment of a long-anticipated royal progression.

The month of February has remained symbolic in his life—a recurring season of elevation and fulfillment—culminating in his coronation on February 12, 2026, as the first Oloke of Oke Ariko.

Leadership Rooted in Humility and Service
Beyond titles, Oba Oladunni Ifagbemi, whose royal title is Gbadewolu Orukotan 1, is widely regarded as a calm, patient, and thoughtful leader. From his days as Baale to his emergence as Oloke, he has demonstrated resilience, steady leadership, and commitment to the growth of his community.

His reign is already being perceived as one anchored on cultural pride, strengthened traditional values, and sustainable development.

Throne Described as Divine Assignment.

Shortly after his coronation, the monarch described his ascension as a divine assignment, noting that destiny may sometimes be delayed but will ultimately be fulfilled.

He expressed deep appreciation to the Akarigbo of Remoland for his fatherly guidance and unwavering support. He also acknowledged the contributions of family members, friends, and well-wishers who stood by him throughout his journey.

Oba Ifagbemi further appreciated the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, for the support extended toward the successful hosting of the historic event.

Call for Infrastructure Development
While celebrating his installation, the new Oloke appealed to the Ogun State Government to prioritize the construction of the Oke Ariko community road linking Sagamu city.

According to him, improved road infrastructure would unlock economic opportunities, attract investment, and accelerate socio-economic development within the kingdom.

A New Era for Oke Ariko Kingdom
The coronation of Oba Oladunni Ifagbemi marks a defining moment in the history of Oke Ariko and reinforces continuity in traditional leadership within Remoland.

As the first Oloke of the kingdom, his emergence symbolizes not only personal fulfillment but also collective hope for greater unity, advancement, and prosperity for the people of Oke Ariko in Sagamu and across Ogun State.

Indigenes and residents of the growing town remain optimistic that his reign will be founded on justice, fairness, peace, and progressive leadership, laying a solid foundation for enduring development.
