Reward Time: Buhari honours Dr Laraba Shoda with MFR national award

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the conferment of national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) on the President of Africa Regional Council of Women and the  immediate past President of National Council of Women Society, NCWS, Dr Gloria Laraba Shoda, mni.

This is an evidence of the potency of the Law of Sowing and Reaping, as this award is coming barely five months after she was elected as a Board Member of the International Council of Women, ICW, in France.

It is a national reward for her many relentless contributions to the cause of women, children and the vulnerable across the country and Africa.

Mrs Shoda who was saddled with the responsibilities of being in charge of Africa by the ICW, few months after completing her tenure as NCWS president, is the first black African to be so elected.

According to the letter confirming the approval of her conferment with the MFR award, which was made available to Successful People Magazine this Wednesday, October 5, 2022, she is considered for the award based on her meritorious services to the nation as the president of the NCWS, among others.


The letter issued with reference number FMSDIGA/NHA/001/T/93 and signed on 19th. September, 2022  by the Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume, reads inter alia


  "Dr Gloria Laraba Shoda,

Dear Former President, NCWS,

2022 NATIONAL HONOURS AWARD LETTER.

    I have the honour to formally inform you that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the conferment of the National Honours on you, in the rank of MFR (Member of the Order of the Federal Republic)...


 Senator Akume stated further in the letter thus:

"The investiture ceremony is scheduled to take place at the International Conference Centre, (ICC) Abuja on Tuesday, 11th. October, 2022 at 9am.”


Dr (Mrs) Shoda who hails from Kawo, Kaduna State is a Remo woman by marriage, and stands out among the 75 Nigerians to be conferred with the MFR; who are part of the 437 nominees to receive the various categories national awards this year.

This year national awards are the last of such awards that President Buhari would bestow on Nigerians before the expiration of his tenure in May next year.


Chief (Mrs) Shoda, an outstanding women leader, not only in Nigeria, but entire Africa, is an alumnus of National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies(NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, where she bagged the prestigious Member of National Institute,mni.


When the ICW leaders created the African Regional Council of Women (ARCW) in 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia, Mrs Shoda was selected to administer the new body alongside others from South Africa and Morocco. With the headquarters of ARCW, in Abuja, Nigeria she thus became its maiden President.


 A woman of many parts and an achiever per excellence, Erelu Shoda is the President and Chairman of Council of the Institute of Certified Strategic Customer Service and Trade Management, Nigeria.


Dr (Mrs) Shoda, a multiple awards winner, was honoured as Successful People Woman of Virtue,  a couple of months ago, by the Successful People Media, shortly after she was installed the Erelu of Yorùbá community in FCT Abuja.


She has a doctoral degree in Peace and Conflict Management at the Theological Seminary College, Ibadan, (2012-2014). And she had earlier bagged Master’s degree in Education, M.Ed (PhD Grade) in Community Development in 2005 from the University of Ibadan


This MFR nominee is an accomplished teacher who studied and bagged Bachelor of Education Degree (B.Ed.) at the University of Benin (Uniben) in 1989, where she graduated with Second Class Upper division.

 Suffice to add that she was schooled at the Ogun State College of Education (now Tai Solarin University of Education), where she actually began training for her teaching career and obtained National Certificate of Education (NCE) nearly four decades ago.
