Ahead of 2027, Yayi Movement Rallies APC, Expands Political Base in Ogun

The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), formerly known as the Omoluabi Movement, has intensified efforts to consolidate support within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, positioning itself as a major grassroots force ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

The State Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, described YPM as a unifying platform committed to inclusiveness and collective political participation, while dismissing allegations circulating on social media that the group hijacked its name from another organisation.

Speaking through the Movement’s State Media Director, Oluseun Joshua, Kaka emphasized that YPM remains a broad-based political structure open to all stakeholders, regardless of political affiliation. He noted that the movement embodies a people-driven philosophy aimed at fostering unity and sustainable development across Ogun State.

According to him, the group, under the leadership of its Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, has grown into a widely recognised platform that accommodates artisans, professionals, youths, community leaders, and politically conscious individuals.

“The Yayi Progressives Movement is a distinct grassroots political organisation with its own history, structure, and ideological foundation. This is not the time for division or internal political battles; the vision we are building is bigger than that,” Kaka stated.

Addressing the controversy over the movement’s name, Kaka maintained that due diligence was carried out before its adoption. He explained that the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) confirmed that no prior organisation existed under the name Yayi Progressives Movement before its registration.

He challenged those making contrary claims to present evidence of registration, stressing that the movement remains the only legally recognised body under that identity, with official documentation duly signed by its leadership.

Kaka further revealed that the movement has recorded rapid growth, with membership exceeding 30,000 across various communities in the state, a development he described as a testament to its growing acceptance and influence.

He added that the inclusion of the word “Progressives” reflects the group’s ideological alignment with the APC, distinguishing it from similarly named entities and reinforcing its political direction.

Tracing its evolution, Kaka explained that the movement emerged from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA), which played a significant role during the governor’s 2023 re-election campaign. He noted that its transition into the Yayi Progressives Movement marks a broader phase of political mobilisation ahead of 2027, particularly in support of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

“The rebranding represents an expansion of our political engagement as we prepare for the future. It reflects our commitment to deeper grassroots mobilisation and wider participation,” he said.

Kaka also extended an olive branch to aggrieved APC members and opposition figures, urging them to set aside differences and collaborate with the movement in pursuit of shared political goals.

“The Yayi Progressives Movement remains a people-driven platform founded on unity, inclusiveness, and progressive development. We are legally established and fundamentally organised,” he added.

In the same vein, the State Deputy Coordinator of the movement, Hon. Olanrenwaju Lookman Yakubu, called on members and opposition groups to embrace unity, stressing that collective effort is crucial to achieving political success in the state.

He underscored the need for cooperation among stakeholders, noting that only through unity can the vision of a more prosperous Ogun State be realised.
