Ijebu-Remo State Agitation Gains Momentum as Daniel Calls for Collective Action

By Our Reporter

The long-standing call for the creation of Ijebu-Remo State gained renewed energy on Sunday as youths, community leaders, and political stakeholders in Ijebuland converged in Ijebu-Ode to engage Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), representing Ogun East Senatorial District, on a shared vision for regional development and unity.

The gathering , which held at Obalofin Hall, GRA, Ijebu-Ode, brought together members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Ijebu Youth Development Advocate (IYDA), and the Ikangba Housing Estate Community Residents’ Association (IHECRA) under the them “Reclaiming Our Identity: Ijebu-Remo as a Catalyst for Balanced Development in Ogun East.”

The event combined community service and policy dialogue with the inauguration of new IHECRA executives, awards presentations, and welfare initiatives powered by Gateway Front Foundation, including free medical screening, eye tests, and financial support for widows and elderly citizens.

Daniel: “Ijebus and Remos Must Speak With One Voice”

Addressing the enthusiastic audience, Senator Gbenga Daniel reignited hope in the Ijebu-Remo State creation dream, urging the people to close ranks and speak in unison for the collective good of the region.

Creating a new state out of the existing structure is a long but achievable journey. All hands must be on deck. Ijebus and Remos must unite with one voice if we are to make this dream a reality.” Daniel declared.

The former Ogun State Governor explained that, unlike during the military era, state creation in a democracy demands broad-based consultation and legislative processes.

We have competitors across the country who share similar aspirations. At the inauguration of Oba Rasheed Adewolu in Ibadan, the monarch congratulated the President in anticipation of a new state — meaning others are already making moves. Ijebus and Remos must therefore stand together so our dream will not be hijacked,” Daniel warned.

Reaffirming his legislative commitment, he reminded the audience that Ijebu remains the only old province in Nigeria yet to be granted statehood, despite its historical and economic significance..

“The Ijebu-Remo area covers nine local governments, not six as often assumed. If both zones work in synergy, our chances of achieving this goal are very bright,” he noted.

Youths, Leaders Renew Commitment to Unity

Speaking with journalists at the event, Mr. Daniyan Adetayo, Convener of the Ijebu Youth Development Advocate (IYDA), emphasized that the movement transcends politics, focusing instead on regional unity and shared prosperity.

We are here to sensitize our people and remind them not to let political divisions derail our collective vision. “When we speak with one voice, development will come faster. We’re reaching out to traditional rulers, market women, and religious leaders to ensure the message of unity spreads.” Adetayo stated.

The convener added that the engagement with Senator Daniel marked “a new dawn for Ijebu and Remo collaboration,” pledging continued youth mobilization for the cause.

Development Support and Community Impact

Beyond the political discussion, the event also showcased Daniel’s deep commitment to grassroots empowerment. The senator awarded scholarships to two students, donated ₦2 million to the Ikangba Housing Estate development fund, and distributed eyeglasses and medical kits to elderly residents.

He also addressed community concerns on road infrastructure, advising the association to first liaise with the Ministry of Town Planning and the Housing Corporation for necessary approvals before his legislative intervention.

Once proper documentation is done, we can include your project in our constituency development agenda,” Daniel assured.

In his address, the outgoing General Secretary of IHECRA, Mr. Daniyan Adetayo, outlined the association’s achievements over the past four years — including improved electricity supply, security enhancement, street lighting, road maintenance, and environmental upgrades.

Leaders Laud Daniel’s Vision

The well-attended gathering drew notable dignitaries, including Oba Adesanya, the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode, Hon. Olufemi Ogunbanwo (represented), and Hon. Lukman Adeleye, Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, who also donated ₦250,000 in support of the community’s efforts.

Stakeholders hailed Senator Daniel’s leadership and philanthropy, describing him as “a unifier with a practical passion for Ijebu and Remo development.”

As the curtain fell on the event, the message was clear: the agitation for Ijebu-Remo State is not just alive but gathering fresh momentum; powered by unity, youth engagement, and visionary leadership.
