From the bustling streets of Abeokuta to the commercial corridors of Agbara, from the quiet communities of Yewa to the heart of Ijebu and Remo land,  the story of Ogun’s transformation is being told on its roads. Under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Gateway State is witnessing an infrastructure renaissance that is quietly redefining mobility, commerce, and everyday life.

The Asphalt of Progress

When Governor Dapo Abiodun assumed office, Ogun’s road network was in dire condition — many stretches impassable, some abandoned, and others trapped in years of neglect. But in just a few years, the narrative has changed.

Today, Ogun’s roads are not just pathways of transport; they have become symbols of renewal, discipline, and economic intent. According to Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, the government’s resolve to complete every ongoing road project remains firm and unshaken.

   “This government will never take the yearnings of Ogun people with levity. Our commitment to infrastructure across all senatorial districts remains unwavering.”Akinmade said.

This commitment, he explained, is not merely about beautifying the state but about laying the foundation for enduring economic growth and shared prosperity.

Turning Miles into Opportunities

The Abiodun administration’s philosophy is clear: connect communities, empower businesses, and open markets. The results are visible across the state’s three senatorial districts.

In Ogun Central, the capital city of Abeokuta has undergone remarkable transformation. Roads like Idi-Aba–Elite–One Lantoro, the Kuto Flyover, Lafenwa–Ayetoro, and Panseke–Adigbe now serve as arteries linking residential and commercial hubs. The once-frustrating Obantoko axis has been reborn, while new access routes at Somorin–Kemta–Idi Aba have opened up emerging suburbs for investment.

In Ogun East, the 3-kilometre Awujale Road, the iconic Ijebu Ode–Epe/Sagamu Interchange Flyover, and the 27-kilometre Erunwon–Idowa–Ibefun–Itokin Road stand out as monumental achievements. These roads have reduced travel time, boosted intercity trade, and reconnected local economies long cut off by poor access.

In Ogun West, the transformation continues. The Ikola/Navy/Osi Ikola Road, Igbesa–Ehila Road, and the Ilaro–Iwoye–Yewa Road have not only improved connectivity but also expanded the industrial reach of the region. Border routes like Joju Road and RayPower Road are easing movement between Ogun and Lagos — Nigeria’s busiest commercial link.

Infrastructure as an Economic Engine

Beyond aesthetics, these projects have become powerful economic drivers. Markets now thrive where roads were once riddled with potholes; small businesses flourish where access was once impossible. Farmers move produce faster, traders reach customers quicker, and industries distribute goods with greater efficiency.

The rehabilitation of the Atan–Lusada–Agbara Road — one of West Africa’s largest industrial corridors — has particularly boosted investor confidence. Similarly, the Ijebu Ode–Mojoda–Epe Expressway now connects Ogun more seamlessly to Lagos, opening up a new wave of real estate and industrial opportunities.

Even where federal attention lagged — such as the Sango-Ota axis — the state government took initiative with palliative works to ease the suffering of commuters. That proactive gesture underscored the Abiodun administration’s responsiveness to the people’s needs.

A Culture of Continuity and Completion

Unlike many administrations that abandon inherited projects, the Abiodun-led government has adopted a policy of continuity — completing and commissioning roads started by previous administrations while initiating new ones that fit into a broader master plan.

Projects like the Abeokuta–Sagamu Expressway, the Ogun Waterside internal roads, and the ongoing work around the Agro-Cargo Airport in Iperu exemplify a governance model built on sustainability, not politics.

This consistency has earned Ogun State a growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s most investment-friendly subnational economies, attracting industries and real estate investors who now see infrastructure reliability as a key factor for growth.

Bridging People, Powering Growth

Each completed road, bridge, or interchange does more than link two points on the map — it connects people to possibilities. From improved access to healthcare and schools to better logistics for manufacturers, the ripple effects are visible in every community touched by new asphalt.

Across the state, the refrain is the same: life is becoming easier, commerce is growing faster, and confidence in government is rising stronger.
