Iperu Remo, Ogun State, is already vibrating with anticipation as preparations for the 2025 Akesan Day Celebration enter a decisive phase. In a move steeped in tradition and diplomacy, the Akesan Day Planning Committee embarked on a tour of royal palaces and council chambers on Sunday, August 10, 2025, to seek blessings, wisdom, and guidance from the custodians of Iperu’s heritage.

Leading this strategic mission was Otunba Wale Abdul (MBA, FCA, ACIB), the committee’s chairman, accompanied by a strong team of dedicated members: Omoba Taiwo Raji (Treasurer), Prince Musa Elepe (Clubs Liaison Officer), Princess Bunmi Odunsi (Social Welfare/Entertainment Officer), Comrade Ganiyu Ahmed (Youths Liaison Officer), and Otunba Adebayo Salami (Technical Officer).

Their first port of call was the Alaperu Palace, where they were warmly received by the Iperu Regency Council. In his address, Otunba Abdul emphasized that Akesan Day is not merely a festival, but a cultural institution — a communal platform that unites sons and daughters of Iperu Akesanland, regardless of religion or politics. He assured the council of the committee’s dedication to an inclusive, memorable celebration from Wednesday, November 26, to Sunday, November 30, 2025, with the grand finale on Saturday, November 29.

The reception was rich in both counsel and blessings. High Chief Rotimi Odutona, the Lisa of Iperu and head of the Regency Council, praised the committee’s proactive engagement. He advised the adoption of a single ankara fabric and the use of a central venue to symbolize unity and avoid fragmentation.

High Chief Barr. Ifasola Saheed Opeodu, the Oluwo of Iperu, followed with heartfelt prayers for success, while High Chief Rasaq Osho, the Apena of Iperu, stressed the need for including members of the Alaperu-in-Council in planning to ensure seamless execution of traditional rites. High Chief Kunle Adekoya, the Odi of Iperu, was also present, lending his silent but powerful endorsement.

Looking ahead, the committee plans to extend these royal engagements to include Alayeluwa Oba Engr. Lukman Oluwadamilare Adebambo Salami (Olumogun Adimula Sebu II), Ebi of Idena; and Alayeluwa Oba Sir Olugbenga Shomade (Igundaniyan III), Akufon of Idarika, among other notable figures.

For the people of Iperu, Akesan Day is more than a date on the calendar — it is the heartbeat of their cultural identity. With royal wisdom guiding the way and a deep sense of unity at its core, the 2025 celebration promises to be a radiant showcase of Iperu’s heritage, bringing together indigenes from home and the diaspora in one grand expression of pride, culture, and community spirit.
