The governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on all the Iyaloja Generals in other parts of Ogun State to support the newly installed Iyaloja of Remo Land, Chief (Mrs) Abosede Olasonde Oduwaye, in the overall interest of the State.


Governor Abiodun who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele during the installation inside the Multipurpose Hall of Akarigbo Palace, at Sagamu, noted that so much could be achieved through such support.

"I call on her fellow Iyaloja Generals from Ijebu, Egba and Yewa Divisions to rally around her, support her leadership and work hand-in-hand with her, for the collective goal of all market women in Ogun State. Together there is so much we can achieve." He said.


The governor, while speaking on the virtues and leadership quality of the Iyaloja, said: "Today, we celebrate a remarkable woman whose life has been defined by service, skill and an enduring commitment to her community. Chief (Mrs) Olasonde Oduwaye is not just a leader of traders. She is a pioneer in fashion design and a mentor to many. A trainer of future artisans and a strong advocate for the development of our local markets."


He acknowledged the vital roles market women play in driving the economic engine of the State. He also laid emphasis on the synergy between them and the State government in carrying out a lot of their women empowerment programmes, which included, "Okowo Dapo", through which they have disbursed multiple rounds of grants to women through agencies of the State. "And we have also provided finance to them through agencies like OSAMCA, to strengthen financial inclusion and lift women out of poverty." He added.


The Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remo Land, HRM. Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, who conferred the chieftaincy title of Iyaloja of Remo Land on her, admonished her to continue to improve on her leadership skills by relating well with all the Iyaloja generals in each of the Local government areas in Remo Land. He also advised her to ensure harmony between all market women under jurisdiction. He then prayed for long life, good health and more wisdom to lead successfully during her tenure. 


The Ogun State Iyaloja General encouraged her to relate well with all the Iyaloja in the remaining local government areas in Remo Land, because her jurisdiction is now beyond Sagamu. She prayed for her successful tenure and long life with good health to lead well and live long enough.


Earlier in her maiden speech after she has been decorated with the chieftaincy regalia and other paraphernalia required to be presented to her during the ceremony, the new Iyaloja General expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation she has been getting from Gov. Abiodun and his wife, Senator Gbenga Daniel; when he was governor of Ogun State, the current Deputy Governor, the commissioner for Special Duties, the Akarigbo and other Obas in Remo Land, and those who have contributed to making the event a reality and successful.


Speaking to newsmen after the programme, one of her sons, Professor Leke Oduwaye, an architect and former Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Science of the University of Lagos, disclosed that his mother is endowed with leadership inclination. 


According to him, his mother's promotion to this her and new position as Iyaloja General of Remo Land is a testament to her good leadership skills and many years of experience in leading market women successfully.


  He disclosed how his mother is fond of sacrificing whatever she has to please and satisfy the needs of the market women and everyone under her leadership.


 Prof Oduwaye said, "One thing I know about her is that she is a contented person. She takes life easy. She has been a leader right from when I was in primary school. And she emerged as leader naturally without engaging in do or die affairs that many people engage in to enable them to take leadership positions.


 Saying the truth without minding the consequences is one of the virtues he said his mother is known for. He then prayed that God will give her divine health and long life, to stay long enough in this new position.


The ceremony was also attended by other prominent people in the State like the Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, former Governor of Ogun State and the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs  & Social Development in Ogun State, Hon. Adijat Motunrayo Adeleye, 


Other notable people seen at the event included the former Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly and two terms commissioner, Rt. Hon. Muyiwa Oladipo, the Hon. Commissioner for Special Duties & Intergovernmental Affairs in Ogun State, Hon. Funmilayo Efuwape, the
