In a heartwarming display of admiration and appreciation, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has commended Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) for its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, research, and infrastructure development.

From a release issued by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Olayinka Oyebode,  Successful People Magazine gathered that the governor's praise came during a courtesy visit by members of OAU's Governing Council, on Wednesday, led by Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, at the Governor's Office in Ado-Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji acknowledged OAU's significant contributions to nation-building, highlighting the university's impressive track record of producing exceptional leaders who have excelled in various sectors of Nigeria's economy. He also commended the Pro-Chancellor and the management of the university for their dedication to preserving OAU's glory.

The governor's commendation is a testament to OAU's reputation as a leading institution in Nigeria. With its rich history of academic excellence, research, and innovation, OAU has consistently maintained its position as a beacon of excellence in the country's education sector.

During the meeting, Prof. Oyeweso expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for his administration's strides in the education sector, which have led to significant improvements in infrastructure, teachers' welfare, and student performance in Ekiti State. He urged the governor to extend similar support to OAU, emphasizing the benefits of collaboration in areas such as funding, infrastructure, and research development.

As Governor Oyebanji continues to make waves in the education sector, his administration's efforts have not gone unnoticed. Recently, he was awarded the Governor of the Year in Inclusive Political Leadership at the 2024 EDGE Awards. This recognition is a testament to his commitment to inclusive governance and his dedication to uplifting the standard of living in Ekiti State.

The meeting between Governor Oyebanji and OAU's Governing Council
also had in attendance the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Niyi Adebayo; Commissioner for Education, Dr Adebimpe Aderiye, Special Adviser, Tertiary Education, Prof Akeem Azeez, Special Adviser Media, Mr Yinka Oyebode. Without mincing words, it marked the beginning of a new chapter in collaboration between the state government and the university. And, as they work together to promote educational excellence and innovation, their partnership is definitely poised to have a lasting impact on the education sector in Nigeria.

Apart from the Nigeria First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, a non Ekiti State indigene who is a product of the OAU, there are a lot of notable Nigerians from Ekiti State like: the Leader of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, former Chairman of the Nigeria's Governors' Forum and erstwhile Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his wife, Erelu Bisi Adeleye Fayemi, the late Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt.
