The Nigeria Minister of Industry, Trade and Investments, who was the first Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, has expressed huge shock over the sudden death of the Speaker of his home state, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye.

Speaking with Successful People Magazine via telephone interview on Wednesday night, Otunba Adebayo expressed complete sadness over the bad news.

  "

It's so sad. We were together on Sunday during the inauguration of our new governor in Ekiti

"We discussed about the wedding of his(Afuye's) daughter coming up this Saturday.   I told him I won't be able to make it because of the 90th birthday of my mother.

"In fact, we were together, jocking and discussing, not knowing he would soon leave us, just like that."

Adebayo added.

He prayed that God would uphold everyone in the State and the bereaved family.

In a swift reaction to the bad news, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State chapter, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, has issued a condolence statement in Ado Ekiti, through which he portrayed the death of the speaker as painful and unfortunate.

“No one could imagined that the late speaker who was full of life and energy on Tuesday when he went out with the Governor could die so soon.”, Ojomeyela said.

He noted that the speaker died at a time his service was most needed, particularly his wealth of experience and guidance for the new administration of Governor Abiodun Oyebanji.

Ojomoyela, who was the Chairman of Ekiti State Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ when Rt Hon. Afuye was the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, and later the State Commissioner for Integration and Inter-Governmental Affairs during the first term of former Governor Kayode Fayemi, pointed out that the late lawyer and Chief lawmaker of the State would be missed a lot.

He then prayed that God should grant him eternal rest and give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
