Ogun State Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun has called on the leadership and members of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni Association (MAPAA), to keep working towards sustaining the Institution’s legacy which has earned it recognition among the comity of polytechnics in Nigeria.


The governor tasked the association on the need for more commitments at the 6th Distinguished Alumni Merit Award of the institution in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, through his Special Adviser on Technical and Vocational Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa, who represented him.

He opined that the Institution has contributed in great measure to the provision of professionals who were making impacts across the globe.

He then called on them to sustain the prestige, while reiterating that the Polytechnic played critical role in the development of highly skilled and technical personnel.

Prince Abiodun however assured them that the Institution would continue to enjoy government’s attention.

“I want to congratulate the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic on your 6th Distinguished Alumni Merit award. Of course, your prestige and impact among the comity of polytechnics in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized.

" I want to charge you not to allow the prestige to wane. On our part as government, we would continue to accord you the needed support. We will ensure that MAPLOY regains its full relevance among the comity of vocational and technical education at the Polytechnic”, the governor said.

He affirmed that his administration would continue to accord polytechnic education the needed attention in order to achieve more technological development. 

According to him, the polytechnic was the birthing ground for technologists, Engineers and other professionals, saying that graduates of the institution have proved their mettle anywhere they found themselves in the area of practical exposure.

The national president of the MAPOLY alumni association, Pastor Ezekiel Obasanya who organized the awards with his executive members, had earlier in his welcome speech, urged called on the governor to come to the aid of the institution.

"As major stakeholders in the affairs of the institution, we passionately use this medium to appeal to our Governor, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, to come to the aid of the institution, by addressing salient issues which presently threatens the continued existence of our great citadel of learning, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta", Obasanya said.

Speaking on "Security: Panacea to a Sustainable National Growth and Development", the Guest Lecturer, Mr. Eddy Aina, posited that agitations for self-determination, poverty, inequality, unemployment and alignment of some religious sects with foreign terrorist groups were some of the factors contributing to insecurity.

Aina noted that establishment of state police, meritocracy, honesty, pragmatism as well as the urgent rejigging of security apparatus among others could tame it.

Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Adeboye Odedeji reiterated that the MAPOLY management would continue to promote high academic and ethical standards in the conduct of their staff and students, that would not compromise integrity, quality, fairness, and transparency, which he noted the alumni had laboured for.

The rector disclosed that his administration has been enjoying the best collaborative efforts of the alumni association in the history of the polytechnic under the leadership of Pastor Obasanya.


He mentioned some of the numerous things the association has done In the institution and asked for more support.

Odedeji added that all their support  would a huge boost on their Alma mater ahead of the forthcoming resource inspection, accreditation and re-accreditation exercise by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Highlights of the event was the presentation of awards to some distinguished  alumnus and other notable personalities including the Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, the Olota of Ota, HRM, Oba Abdulkabir Obalanlege, the General Manager of NTA Abeokuta, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, the National Information Officer of the United Nations Organization, Dr Oluseyi Soremekun, Pastor Anthony Adeniji, Asiwaju Taiwo Olusanya, and an Awori notable prince of Ota and Ado-Odo royalties, Pastor Adebayo Akinde, among others.
