Awujale Throne: Mabadeje Calls for Harmony Within Fusengbuwa Ruling House

The Chairman of the Four Ruling Houses of Ijebu-Ode, Prince Taheeb Mabadeje Alaga, has appealed to members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to put aside their differences and embrace unity as they prepare to produce the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

Prince Mabadeje, who also serves as the Olori-Ebi of the Anikilaya Ruling House, made the appeal in an open letter released to journalists on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

The letter, titled “A Candid Appeal to Fusengbuwa Ruling House” and personally signed by him, was addressed to prominent Fusengbuwa family members, Prince Adedokun Ajidagba and Chief Lateef Owoyemi, among others.

Expressing concern over the division within the family, Mabadeje described the situation as worrisome, especially given that the Fusengbuwa lineage is next in line to produce the Awujale following the passing of Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered monarch from the Anikilaya Ogbagba branch.

The Fusengbuwa family is richly blessed, and no ancestor would rejoice to see his children divided over a seat of leadership,
 he wrote.

The elder statesman, who turns 82 this year, stressed that peace and reconciliation are the only paths forward.

“At this stage of life, truth is my only guide. I have no cause to bend or compromise it. My earnest counsel is that unity must prevail. The Fusengbuwa family is richly blessed, and no ancestor would rejoice to see his children divided over a seat of leadership,” he wrote.

He reminded the Fusengbuwa family of the peace and dignity that characterised Oba Adetona’s reign, urging them to honour that legacy by presenting a consensus candidate for the exalted throne.

“A people without memory of history are easily lost. Today’s actions will be tomorrow’s record. May our contributions be remembered for wisdom, not discord,” he cautioned.

Prince Mabadeje concluded his letter with a heartfelt plea for harmony:

“I humbly and prayerfully appeal to all concerned factions to reconcile and unite for the sake of our descendants and to the glory of our ancestors. History will never forget the commitment you show in this moment. May Almighty Allah guide your hearts and grant you the wisdom to act in peace.”
