Understanding The Differences Between Wedding And Marriage; And What It Takes To Succeed.

By Sesan Akinbowale

There are significant differences between a wedding and a marriage in a spousal relationship. Unfortunately many don't understand this, especially among the children if the wealthy and highly successful people. They prioritize wedding, prepare a lot for it, pay the necessary price and put in all it requires to succeed, but for the marriage they trivialize its requirements, shabbily prepare for what it takes to succeed and often feel reluctant to pay the price required for it to succeed.

Wedding
A wedding is a ceremonial event where two people publicly declare their love and commitment to each other. It's a one-time event where the couple enter a marital contract to live together for the rest of their lives. And that marks the beginning of their marriage. The wedding typically involves:

A formal ceremony, often with religious or cultural significance. It involves exchanging vows and rings as a symbol of commitment to a lifelong relationship. And signing a marriage license/certificate, to show a lifetime contractual agreement has been entered for a lifetime relationship. Celebrating with family, friends, and loved ones, to say goodbye to bachelorhood and spinsterhood.

Marriage
Marriage, on the other hand, is a lifelong commitment and bond between two people. It's a journey, not a destination. Marriage involves:

Building a life together, sharing and taking responsibilities, and supporting each other.
It involves nurturing a deep emotional, physical, and spiritual connection. And working through challenges, conflicts, and ups and downs together.
Growing, learning, and evolving as individuals and as a couple

In essence, a wedding is the celebration of the beginning of a marriage, while marriage itself is the ongoing, dynamic relationship between two people.

To illustrate the difference:

A wedding is like planting a seed in the ground, and telling people about it.
Marriage on the other hand, is like nurturing, watering, and caring for the seedling as it grows into a strong, healthy tree.

While a wedding is an important and a joyful event, it's just the starting point. Marriage requires efforts, commitment, and dedication to flourish.
