Take Prosecution Away From Police, CP Balogun tells FG

  ...Calls for expansion of jurisdiction of magistrate courts

Security expert and retired commissioner of police, Dr Olayinka Balogun has called on the Federal Government to take away prosecution of criminal suspects from the police.
He also made case for expansion of the jurisdiction of magistrate courts so that they can adjudicate on criminal matters like murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, among others.

Balogun who is the Special Assistant to the Chairman, Police Service Commission, was the Security Adviser to the immediate past Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
In a statement issued via his WhatsApp handler to Successful People Magazine,he wrote: "Let's take prosecution away from the police.
"There are many young and experienced lawyers outside who can be employed for this." He added.

He recommended that police should only investigate and come to courts later to give evidence as witnesses.
He noted that the limited scope of the magistrate courts "is keeping millions of innocent Nigerians in detention, awaiting trial".
