Prince Dapo Abiodun becomes Governor of Ogun State on his 59th birthday

History was made in Ogun State today when Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun was sworn-in as the fifth executive governor of the state, the day he clocked 59years.

Abiodun, who was born on May 29, 1960, will consequently be celebrating his birthday with his governorship anniversary every May 29.

He was elected governor of the Gateway State on March 9, in a keenly contested election, during which the immediate past governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, gave him serious opposition.
The MKO Abiola Stadium, venue of the inauguration, was filled with mammoth crowd as people from all walks of life thronged the place.

It was a gathering of former political heavyweights in the state, who were mostly OGD Boys/Men and Osoba loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Traditional rulers, politicians, professionals and artisans, women groups, transport workers, civil servants, youths and other stakeholders.

In his company for the inauguration ceremony were his wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun and their children, the new Deputy Governor, Engr. (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, with her husband and children.

Gist.
Although it rained briefly around 10am, with heavy cloud that depicted readiness to bring heavy downpours, but the rain suddenly stopped and didn’t disrupt the program as it first gave the impression.

This man of destiny had contested and won senatorial election in 1997 under the platform of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) to become a senator, but the mandate was lost due to the death of the then Head of State, Gen. Sanni Abacha.

He as well contested for the Senate in 2015 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but lost the election.

However, the power game from a political warlord in the state, who stopped/discouraged Senator Olamilekan Solomon (a.k.a Yayi) from contesting the gubernatorial election, created an opportunity for him to contest the guber election.

Roll Call:
Notable among people who witnessed the occasion were former governors of the state, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Senator Buruji Kashamu, Professor Bisi Osho, Dr Yemi Ogunyibi, the Akarigbo of Remoland, HRM Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, Professor Babatunde Ogunmola and his wife, Alhaji Tolu Dawodu, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Hon Dave Salako, Hon Waliu Taiwo, Surv.
